    Waltrude the Woman

    Waltrude (Waudru or Waldetrudis) is the seventh-century patron saint of the city of Mons, Belgium. She is responsible for the city's birth and flourishing. Mons was the European Capital of Culture in 2015.

    A festival listed as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), it takes place every Trinity Sunday in the city of Mons. It has been continuously celebrated since the 1300s because of miracles attributed to Waltrude. It is sometimes simply called the Doudou.
